BUT – I’ve over-fertilized a few areas in my backyard.  As a result, there seems to be very dry and brown patches.  I think these are areas on which I dropped TOO MUCH fertilizer.  It’s not horrible to look at but it is noticeable.  I’m trying to water it more and hopefully it’ll clear up with a little grass seed and soil.

Other than that, the grass looks better and I’m pulling out those pesky weeds.  The clovers are annoying too.  I used the following steps to pull them out:

1. Water area with clovers (not too deep)
2. Wait a few hours to let it soak in
3. Rake the grass a bit to remove some of the dead grass and make the weeds stand up more
4. Pull weeds by hand (they come out pretty easily because the roots aren’t very deep)

Unfortunately, they grow quite densely so you may be left with a bare patch of soil.  I’m trying Scotts EZ Seed for that.  Hopefully that works!

Since it was made by Apple, I couldn’t say it was stupid – maybe a little overzealous but not stupid. I was hoping, though, that it could be used in different industries. A nurse filling out a client chart, or a public works employee conducting an inspection on a building … That sort of thing.

But when I saw it and starting playing around with it … whoa! It was actually very awesome. The response of the touch screen was way faster than the iPhone and the screen was very easy on the eyes.  I also liked the way that photos were displayed and especially the books application.  Reading on a tiny iPhone screen can be tough but when you have a nice size like the iPad, it makes you want to read more, I’d think.  I would definitely consider getting one now – maybe not as a mandatory item but as a luxury.  Check out the keynote presentation.  Given enough time, though, I’m sure it’ll revolutionize the way we think about mobile/tablet computing.

It’s springtime! The weather has been up and down these past few weeks but I’m actually loving the rain. Our grass has really come up nicely.

A few weeks ago, we fertilized with Scotts Turf Builder.   Their website had some good tips and I plan on following it as much as I can (budget permitting ).  I’ve already fertilized once in early spring – I’ll do it again in late spring, and once again in late summer/early fall.

We also bought a gazebo tent from Walmart and that too looks cool.  The wind was crazy wild though, so I was afraid it would just fly away. So far, it’s still here and didn’t fly away.

We also added 2 emerald cedar evergreen trees in the front yard, which help to frame the front yard very well.  Never thought I’d be a guy that would worry about grass of all things – I guess you’re just a little more careful when it’s your own lawn.

Since upgrading to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I noticed that my Network Connect did not work.  It would always return an error saying that it couldn’t establish a secure connection.  After some digging, I found an article with some simple commands that did the trick!

Type the following two lines into a terminal window:

sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/juniper/nc/[version number]/
sudo mkdir ‘/Applications/Network Connect.app/Contents/Frameworks’

I have version 6.4.0 and it worked for me. Apparently it worked for other older versions as well.  One thing to note is that if the software is ever upgraded (i.e. if you notice that new software is being upgraded in your system when running Network Connect), then you’ll need to run these same steps again.

The action was pretty cool and the plot was also understandable – not like some other sci-fi films! But poor Kirk – his face got bashed in more than once

Overall, a solid 8.5.
